I call myself an accidental (and very lucky) food writer. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I was writing a weekly food column for Forum Communications newspapers. It seems I’ve saved the best career for last.
I’ve been a kitchen person since I was a little person. I have dear memories of helping my Hungarian grandmother mix up the dough for her raised donuts, peeling cucumbers from the large garden she and my grandpa had on their Indiana farm and cleaning strawberries for the fantastic pies my grandma made.
By the time I was nine years old, my mom and dad’s friends were coming to our house to taste the sweet treats I made, using recipes I’d clipped from the newspaper. My dad was my best taste-tester.
My passion for creating food for the enjoyment of others (as well as my own taste-buds) has been a constant over the years.
I started this blog a few years ago, thinking it would allow me a spot to continue whatever it was I happened to be writing about in my column. I continue to use this blog for that purpose, but it’s also become a place to store recipes and record stories and a good spot to share some of my food and travel experiences.
Besides writing a weekly food column that includes recipes I create, with stories and photos that I style and shoot myself, I teach cooking classes and develop recipes for national food companies. And, I try hard to post something new on this blog two or three times a week.
You can keep up-to-date on what’s happening in my weekly column that currently runs in 11 newspapers in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota at this link to the Bemidji Pioneer: Sue Doeden’s All About Food
I always enjoy hearing from those who stop by my blog or who read my weekly newspaper column.
